A Parity-Preserving Reversible QCA Gate with Self-Checking Cascadable Resiliency

A novel Parity-Preserving Reversible Gate (PPRG) is developed using Quantum-dot Cellular Automata (QCA) technology. PPRG enables rich fault-tolerance features, as well as reversibility attributes sought for energy-neutral computation. Performance of the PPRG design is validated through implementing thirteen standard combinational Boolean functions of three variables, which demonstrate from 10.7 to 41.9 percent improvement over the previous gate counts obtained with other reversible and/or preserving gate designs. Switching and leakage energy dissipation as low as 0.141 eV and 0.294 eV, for 1.5 E_k energy level are achieved using PPRG, respectively. The utility of PPRG is leveraged to design a one-bit full adder with 171 cells occupying only 0.19 μm² area. Finally, fault detection and isolation properties are formalized into a concise procedure. PPRG-based circuits capable of self-configuring active recovery for selected three-variable standard functions are realized using a memoryless method irrespective of garbage outputs.

IEEE Transactions on Emerging Topics in Computing (TETC) seeks original manuscripts for submission under Technical Tracks. In a track the technical contents of a submitted manuscript must be of an emerging nature and fall within the scope and competencies of the Computer Society. Manuscripts not abiding by these specifications will be administratively rejected. The topics of interest for the Technical Tracks are as follows:

Hardware and Embedded System Security

High Performance Computing
Next Generation Computing Systems
Computer System Security
Emerging Hardware for Computing

Submitted articles must describe original research which is not published or currently under review by other journals or conferences. Extended conference papers should be identified in the submission process and have considerable novel technical content; all submitted manuscripts will be screened using a similarity checker tool. As an author, you are responsible for understanding and adhering to our submission guidelines. You can access them at the IEEE Computer Society web site, www.computer.org. We are pleased to announce that Paolo Montuschi, Professor of Computer Engineering at Polytechnic University of Turin, Italy and IEEE Fellow, has been named the acting Editor in Chief of TETC starting in 2019. Professor Cecilia Metra (TETC Editor in Chief 2018-2020) will be serving as Computer Society President in 2019. Prof. Metra will return as the TETC EIC in 2020.
TETC has been included in the Clarivate Analytics Journal Citation Reports (JCR) 2016 Edition with the following results:
