It is easy to make a new Instant Community:

  • Choose your topic
  • Check the Instant Community Directory to avoid duplicating communities
  • Choose the type of community you want (open, restricted, private)
  • Choose the name of the community and write a short description
  • Access the control panel from the menu next to your name in the upper right corner of the screen
  • Choose Instant Communities
  • Press the Add Community button
  • Fill in and submit the form and click Save
  • Open and Restricted communities will be available from the Instant Community Directory.  All communities that you are an owner of are available in the "Communities I Own" tab in the Instant Communities area from the control panel.

Types of Communities

Open

An open community is one that is open for participation by anyone.  People may join the community simply by visiting the community and clicking on a join now link in the upper right area on the page.

Restricted

A restricted community is a community which requires the owner of the community to approve before someone can become a member and can participate.  A restricted community can have pages which are available only to members of that community.

Private

A private community is just like a restricted community, except that it does not appear in the public Instant Community Directory .  The owner of the community must send the URL for the community to people to be able to find it and join.
